These are from my 2 CDs. Maria and The Jets Are Gonna Have Their Way Tonight are from West Side Story, and Afternoon Of A Faun and the Gershwin Prelude are from Firebird Suite. All 4 are the result of extensive overdubbing, with me playing all the instruments except the drums. Maria is played on multiple pedal steels with guitar, bass mandolin and autoharp accompaniment. Likewise, Afternoon Of A Faun is also multiple steels, but with only guitar and bass accompaniment. This track makes used of an E-bow for many passages.

Gershwin's Prelude #2 is a duet between pedal and non-pedal steel guitars. I gave this piece a blues interpretation, and played the non-pedal parts in the Mississippi delta bottleneck style.

On The jets Are Gonna Have Their Way Tonight, I pulled out all the stops, using 2 different pedal steels, 3 or 4 different guitars, mandolin, autoharp, match bro, fuzz box, wah wah pedal, phase shifter and everything else I could get my hands on, to create an ever changing palate of colors. In the movie, this is a quintet between 5 characters, and I used 5 different steel sounds to represent each one.

A Million Tears

Steel Guitar Rag

3.30MB

3.25MB

A friend of mine wrote and recorded A Million Tears with the Buck Owens band in California. When he got home, he asked me to add some pedal steel. I took the original 24 track master, recorded a steel track and remixed the whole thing. It's not bad but I consider it unfinished. He loved it though.

Steel Guitar Rag was my first attempt at playing/recording steel guitar. It was done a cheap little Morrell 6 string. I think I had been playing for about a year when I recorded it.

Steel Guitar Waltz is an original written by Jimmy Peppers and Me. The Bells Of St Mary is a tumb picking style and I Wonder Where You Are Tonight was done with a MatchBro. They are alls on my Grande Tour CD that is available on the forum.

Here are two more songs. They are vocals, with me on steel. They were done in the late 70's at "Big K" records in Kansas City, Mo. Both were done with a 71 D-10 Emmons (Black of course - grin).

Tonight I'm Taking Charlie's Angels Home was also my arrangement. The singer is Ron Cowans (now lives in West Plains, Mo) and Ron is now a steeler and plays an S-10 Thomas. This song did well in the south and got on a lot of play lists. The word we got was Mel Tillis heard the song and then came out with Charlie's Angel.

The other song Pig Pen Boogie is a comedy song and I got to do C6th on that one.

Thanks, Jack Stoner

Hi Gary

I hope I'm doing this right? My name is Richard Mitcham from Little Cooley PA. I recorded these 2 songs on my home digital recorder. I played all the parts on these songs, bass, guitar, steel, and mixed them also. So they are not as good as most of you guys can do. Hope you enjoy. Song # 7 is "Dream".....Song #10 is "Somewhere over the rainbow" Thank You.

On A Cloud 4.44MB Hello Gary,

My name is Rod Davies, I recently emailed you for permission to send a track I wrote, produced and played. I only started playing my Fender steel guitar last May and I wanted to be part of the 'steel' community. In Australia there are almost no teachers and unfortunately I need to teach myself.

This track is for my daughter and she titled it 'On A Cloud'.

Regards and thank you again,

Somewhere Over The Rainbow 4.44MB Hi Gary,

Hello from England.

Saw your mention on the forum about adding clips from forum members, perhaps you add this clip from me to your website??? I'd much appreciate it. It was done 8 years ago on my Sho-Bud universal which is now being resurrected after a house fire last august destroyed it. I am currently using a Carter universal.

All the best,

Keep well,

Micky Byrne

Blue Bell 0.24MB Hello Gary,

I was wondering if you could provide me with a link for the attached sound file?

If you wish to add this to your site I would be honored also. As you probably know Thumb/Fingerstyle is a favourite of mine along with all the other steel styles.

I enjoy all your Forum contributions.
